What Is PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)?
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a government scheme launched on 1 May 2016 by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to provide free LPG connections to eligible women from poor families.
The scheme has been expanded over time:
- PMUY Phase 1: The scheme was launched in 2016 with a target of providing 8 crore LPG connections. The target was achieved by September 2019.
- Ujjwala 2.0: Expended in 2021 with additional connections and including provisions for migrant families.
- Ujjwala Yojana 3.0 (FY 2025–26): An additional 25 lakh connections approved by the Union Cabinet for the current financial year, taking the overall target to 10.6 crore connections. As of August 2026, over 10.57 crore connections have been released under the scheme.

How to Apply for New PMUY Gas Connection
You can apply for a new gas cylinder connection online directly through the Oil Marketing Company of your choice – Indian Oil (Indane), Bharat Gas (BPCL), or HP Gas (HPCL). All three are accessible from the official PMUY website.
Step 1: Visit the Official Website
Opne the pmuy.gov.in website and click on “Apply for New PMUY Connection”.

Step 2: Choose Your Gas Company
Three options appear: Indane (Indian Oil), Bharat Gas (BPCL), and HP Gas (HPCL). Click “Click here to apply” under whichever company serves your area.

Step 3: Read the Eligibility and Documents List
A new page will show you the eligibility criteria and required documents.
Step 4: Fill the Online Application Form
Enter your personal details – name, Aadhaar number, address, mobile number, and bank account details. Fill in the form exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar.
Step 5: Upload Documents
Upload scanned copies or clear photos of your Aadhaar, ration card, bank passbook, and photograph. For migrant applicant, need to upload the self declaration (Annexure I) as a address proof.
Step 6: Submit and Note Your Reference Number
After submission, you will receive a reference/application number. Keep noted, it helps to track application status.
Step 7: e-KYC (if required)
Some applicants may be asked to complete e-KYC through face authentication at their nearest distributor for verification purpose.

PMUY Eligibility
You are eligible for free gas cylinder connection if:
- You are a woman aged 18 years or above.
- Your family does not already have an LPG connection from any gas agency.
- The applicant must be from a poor family and provide the required declaration.
Migrant workers: If your current address is different from your Aadhaar address, you can still apply using a self declaration form (Annexure I) – no additional address proof needed.
What Is Ujjwala Yojana 3.0?
Ujjwala Yojana 3.0 or PMUY 3.0 is a name commonly used for the latest expansion of the Ujjwala scheme. This latest expansion is part of the existing PMUY scheme. On 22 September 2025, the Union Cabinet approved 25 lakh additional LPG connections under PMUY for FY 2025–26. This increased the overall PMUY target to 10.6 crore connections.
So, if you are looking for a Ujjwala 3.0 new connection, you need to apply through the official PMUY website and choose from the LPG companies listed there.
Note: Officially, the government still refers to this under the PMUY or Ujjwala 2.0 framework. “Ujjwala 3.0” is the widely used term for the FY 2025–26 phase with the new 25-lakh allocation.
PMUY Benefits
Under PM Ujjwala Yojana, the gas connection is completely deposit free. The government provides cash assistance of ₹2,050 per connection (for a 14.2 kg cylinder), which covers:
- Cylinder security deposit – ₹1,700
- Pressure regulator – ₹150
- LPG hose – ₹100
- Domestic Gas Consumer Card – ₹25
- Inspection, installation, and demonstration charges – ₹75
In addition, all PMUY beneficiaries receive:

LPG Subsidy
For FY 2025 – 26, PMUY beneficiaries receive a subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder on up to 9 refills per year. The subsidy amount is credited directly to the beneficiary’s bank account via the PAHAL (DBTL) scheme.
Offline Apply for Ujjwala Yojana Free Gas Connection
You can register yourself for this scheme by visiting nearest LPG gas distributor office:
- Visit your nearest LPG gas distributor (Indane, Bharat Gas, or HP Gas).
- Ask for the PMUY KYC form, available in English, Hindi, and 10 regional languages from pmuy.gov.in.
- Fill the form and attach photocopies of required documents.
- Also fill the Deprivation Declaration form and, if needed, the Migrant Self-Declaration (Annexure I).
- Submit the completed forms to the distributor.
- The distributor will verify your details and initiate the connection process.

After applying, you can check your gas connection status through:
- Online: Log in to your respective OMC portal (Indane, Bharat Gas, or HP Gas) using your application reference number or registered mobile number.
