How to Apply for Voter ID Card Online 2026 – Step by Step
Follow these steps carefully to complete your new voter registration Form 6 online:
Step 1: Open the official portal : voters.eci.gov.in
Step 2: Click on “Sign Up” if you are a new user. Enter your mobile number and email ID, fill the captcha, and click Continue.
Step 3: Set a password and verify your mobile number with the OTP received.
Step 4: Now Login using your mobile number, password, and OTP.
Step 5: On the dashboard, click on “Fill Form 6” under New Voter Registration.
Step 6: Select your State, District, and Assembly Constituency where you currently live. Click Next.
Step 7: Enter your full name, father’s/mother’s/spouse’s name, date of birth, gender, and address details.
Step 8: Upload your photograph and supporting documents (age proof + address proof).
Step 9: Fill in the declaration section, check all details once, enter the captcha, and click Submit.
Step 10: Save the Reference ID / Acknowledgement number that appears on screen. You will need this to track your application.
What Happens After Submission?
Once you submit Form 6, here is what happens next:
- BLO Appointed – A Booth Level Officer is assigned to verify your details.
- Field Verification – The BLO visits your home address within 15 days. Make sure someone is available at your address during this time.
- ERO Approval – The Electoral Registration Officer reviews and approves your application.
- EPIC Issued – Your unique EPIC number is generated. The entire process takes around 30 days.

How to Download e-EPIC (Digital Voter ID Card)
Once your application is approved, you can download your digital Voter ID called the e-EPIC immediately:
Step 1: Go to voters.eci.gov.in and login.
Step 2: Click on “e-EPIC Download” option.
Step 3: Enter your EPIC number or Form Reference Number, select your state, and click Search.
Step 4: Click Send OTP on your registered mobile number.
Step 5: Enter the OTP and click Verify.
Step 6: Click “Download e-EPIC” to save your digital Voter ID as a PDF.
The e-EPIC is a valid document. You can store it on your phone or upload it to DigiLocker for easy access. A physical PVC Voter ID card is also sent to your address by Speed Post within a few weeks.
How to Track Voter ID Application Status
Step 1: Open voters.eci.gov.in and login.
Step 2: Click on “Track Application Status”.
Step 3: Enter your Reference ID and click Submit.
You will see one of these statuses:
- Submitted – Application received
- BLO Appointed – Verification officer assigned
- Field Verified – BLO has completed the address check
- Accepted / Rejected – Final decision by ERO
