PM Yashasvi Scholarship (officially PM YASASVI – Pradhan Mantri Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India) is a flagship central government initiative for OBC, EBC, and DNT students.

What is PM Yashasvi Scholarship?

PM YASASVI is an umbrella scholarship scheme run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. It brings multiple scholarship components under one framework for students from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC), and De-Notified Tribes (DNT).

The two main components currently active on NSP for 2026-27 are:

• Top Class School Education for OBC, EBC, and DNT students in Classes 9 to 12 at notified Top Class Schools (TCS)
• Top Class College Education for OBC, EBC, and DNT students pursuing full-time courses after Class 12 at notified institutions

Each component has its own eligibility rules, benefit structure, and application deadline. The eligibility and benefit for the school component is different from the college component, they should not be read as one single scholarship with one set of rules.

All applications are submitted online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at scholarships.gov.in.

PM YASASVI Scholarship 2026-27 Latest Update

• The NSP portal opened for Academic Year 2026-27 from 1 June 2026.
• School component (Classes 9 – 12): Applications open. Last date – 31 August 2026. Note: the current NSP listing shows this deadline under the renewal window. Fresh applicants should check their eligibility status (fresh or renewal) on the NSP portal before applying.
• College component: Applications open. Last date: 31 October 2026.
• No entrance exam for 2026-27
• New NSP rule from AY 2026-27: NSP has classified scholarships into merit based and welfare based schemes.
• OTR is mandatory: Every student must complete One Time Registration (OTR) on NSP before applying. This is a one-time process for your entire academic career.

Key Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility depends on the specific PM YASASVI component. The school and college components have different academic and selection requirements.

School Component – Top Class Education in Schools

Students enter the school component at Class 9 or Class 11. Scholarships may continue in the subsequent classes subject to the applicable renewal conditions.

At least 30% of scholarships are reserved for girl students, as mandated by the scheme guidelines.

How Much Scholarship Amount is Given?

The PM yashasvi scholarship amount differs between the school and college components.

School Component

This covers tuition fees, hostel fees, and other school charges as applicable. The amount is transferred directly to the student’s Aadhaar linked bank account via DBT.

College Component

The college component provides more comprehensive support:

How to Apply for PM YASASVI Scholarship Online

The application process is entirely online through the NSP portal at scholarships.gov.in. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Complete OTR (One Time Registration) Go to scholarships.gov.in Students section and click “Apply for One Time Registration (OTR).” Download the NSP OTR app from Google Play Store. Complete face authentication using your Aadhaar number. Your OTR is a unique 14-digit number valid for your entire academic career, you only do this once.

Step 2: Log In to Your NSP Dashboard Use your OTR number and password to log in. First time users will set a password during OTR. Returning students log in with their existing OTR credentials.

Step 3: Select the Correct PM YASASVI Component From the list of 2026-27 schemes, find and select the right PM YASASVI scholarship option school (Top Class School Education) or college (Top Class College Education). If you are renewing, select the Renewal option instead of Fresh.

Step 4: Fill the Application Form Enter your personal details, category, family income, academic details, and current school or institution name. Enter your bank account details carefully, these must match your Aadhaar-seeded account.

Step 5: Upload Required Documents Upload scanned copies of each document as specified. Check the file format and size limits on the portal (usually JPEG/PDF). Review every upload before proceeding.

Step 6: Submit and Download Application Slip Review the entire form before submitting. Once submitted, changes are not allowed. Submit and download your application slip, the application number on this slip is needed for future status checks.

How is the Selection Done?

School Component

There is no entrance exam for the school component in 2026-27. The YASASVI Entrance Test (YET), previously conducted by NTA, is not being held this cycle. Selection is now reported to be merit-based, determined by the student’s marks in their previous qualifying examination.

The process works as follows:

1. Application submission: Student applies through NSP with valid OTR.
2. Institute verification: The school verifies the student’s details and academic records on NSP.
3. Nodal officer verification: District, state, and ministry nodal officers review and approve applications at each level.
4. Merit list: A final selection list is published on NSP. Students can check at scholarships.gov.in/onlineSanctionedList by selecting the academic year, scheme, state, and district.
5. DBT payment: Scholarship is transferred directly to the student’s Aadhaar-linked bank account. Payment status can be tracked at pfms.nic.in.

At least 30% of scholarships are reserved for girl students as per the scheme mandate.

College Component

For the college component, selection is based on the student having secured admission through the institution’s own prescribed process, such as a JEE Mains rank for NITs, or other qualifying criteria for other notified institutions. The Ministry verifies institution-level allotments and disburses funds accordingly.
