This is a Karnataka state government housing scheme that provides financial support and construction materials to families who cannot afford to build a home on their own.

What is Basava Vasati Yojana?

Basava Vasati Yojana is a housing scheme run by the Government of Karnataka through the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited (RGRHCL). The scheme was started in 2000 and is also known by other names like Ashraya Yojana and Rajiv Gandhi Vasati Yojana. The main goal is simple to help people from economically weaker sections build a pucca house if they already own land but do not have the money to construct one.

Under this scheme, the government provides up to 85% of the raw construction materials needed to build the house. This includes cement, steel, bricks, and other building supplies. The total unit cost covered under the scheme is Rs. 1.5 lakh. The funds are not given all at once they are released in stages as the construction progresses, which we will explain below.

The scheme covers both rural and urban areas of Karnataka and is linked with central housing initiatives like PM Awas Yojana Gramin to maximise coverage across the state.

Who Can Apply – Eligibility Criteria

Not everyone can apply for this scheme. The Karnataka government has set clear eligibility conditions, and you must meet all of them before submitting an application.

• You must be a permanent resident of Karnataka. Migrants and people from other states are not eligible.
• Your family’s annual income should not exceed Rs. 32,000 if you are in a rural area. For urban areas, the limit is Rs. 87,600 per year.
• You should not own a pucca house anywhere in India — not in Karnataka or any other state.
• You must own a piece of land or be living in a kutcha (temporary) house. The scheme helps with construction, not land purchase.
• SC, ST, OBC, and BPL families are given first priority. Widows, physically disabled persons, ex-servicemen, and senior citizens also get preference in the selection process.

How to Apply for Basava Vasati Yojana Online

You can apply through the official Ashraya portal of RGRHCL. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Go to the official portal at ashraya.karnataka.gov.in

Step 2: On the homepage, click on ‘New Application’ or the Online Application link.

Step 3: Enter your Aadhaar number and verify your identity using OTP on your registered mobile number.

Step 4: Fill in all the required details — your name, date of birth, gender, father’s name, contact number, district, taluka, village, and income details.

Step 5: Upload all the required documents one by one as mentioned in the form.

Step 6: Review all the details carefully, then click Submit.

Step 7: After submission, an acknowledgement number (Beneficiary Code) will be generated. Save this number you will need it to check your application status later.

Offline Application

If you are not comfortable applying online, you can also apply offline. Visit your nearest Gram Panchayat office, collect the application form, fill it in, attach all documents, and submit it there. The GP will forward it to the Taluk Panchayat and then to RGRHCL for processing. Ask for an acknowledgement slip with your Beneficiary Code when you submit offline.

How Beneficiaries Are Selected

The selection process under Basava Vasati Yojana follows a specific order so that it stays fair and transparent:

1. The Gram Panchayat first verifies all submitted applications and checks basic eligibility.
2. Applications are reviewed by local governing bodies based on community need and the conditions set by the government.
3. If there are more applicants than available houses, a lottery system is conducted by the Block Development Officer (BDO) to select beneficiaries without any bias.
4. The final beneficiary list is published by RGRHCL and is also available at the local block development office.

How is the Money Released?

The grant amount is not given in one shot. RGRHCL releases the funds in three stages based on actual construction progress. After 2024, the department also requires GPS-enabled photographs of the construction at each stage, uploaded through the Awaas+ app.

Stage 1 – Foundation Stage: The first installment is released after you complete the foundation work and the site preparation.

Stage 2 – Lintel Stage: The second payment is released once the walls are constructed up to the lintel level.

Stage 3 – Roof Stage: The final installment is released after the permanent roof is fully laid and the house construction is complete.

All payments are made directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

How to Check Basava Vasati Yojana Beneficiary Status

Once you have applied, you can check your status online at any time using your Beneficiary Code. Here is how:

Step 1: Go to ashraya.karnataka.gov.in

Step 2: Click on ‘Beneficiary Information’ or ‘Beneficiary Status’ in the menu.

Step 3: Select your district from the dropdown menu.

Step 4: Enter your Beneficiary Code (the acknowledgement number you received at the time of application).

Step 5: Click Submit. Your application status will appear on the screen. You can download this page for your records.

How to Check Grant Release Status

Step 1: Visit ashraya.karnataka.gov.in

Step 2: Click on ‘Subsidy Fund Release’ on the homepage.

Step 3: Select Rural or Urban based on where you live.

Step 4: Choose the year and week, enter your reference number, and click Submit.

How to Check Name Correction Report

If your name needs to be corrected in the system, you can check the correction status like this:

Step 1: Go to ashraya.karnataka.gov.in

Step 2: Select Rural or Urban.

Step 3: Click on ‘Name Correction Report’.

Step 4: Choose your district, city or taluka, and GP/GRP from the dropdown menus. The list will appear on the screen.
