When a PAN card is issued to a minor, it usually does not contain a photograph or signature. After turning 18 years old, the PAN card holder should update his PAN card with the latest photograph, signature and other details so it can be used as a valid identity proof for banking, KYC, employment, and other financial purposes.
Updating a PAN card after turning 18 is necessary because a minor PAN card does not include the holder’s photograph or signature, so it cannot be used as an independent proof of identity. As an adult, you will need a fully updated PAN card for opening bank or Demat accounts, applying for credit cards, and making significant investments.
To update a minor PAN card, you need to fill out the “Apply New PAN Card or Changes in PAN Data” form on the official tax facilitation website. You will also need to provide identity proof, proof of address, along with your latest photograph and signature.

Step-by-Step Online Process
Now you can change or correction in minor PAN card via online mode, the department has own www.tin-nsdl.com portal which provides many online services related to PAN card.
Let’s check step by step process to update minor PAN card online.
Step 1: Open this Income Tax department link in your phone or laptop: https://onlineservices.proteantech.in/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html.
Here you can directly apply for any PAN card correction.
Step 2: Choose ‘Application type’ as Changes or Correction in existing PAN Card and ‘Category’ value as Individual.
Fill the applicant’s personal information here along with the minor PAN card number and submit it.
Step 3: After this, a new page will open with a generated Token Number. Now click on the ‘Continue with PAN application form’ button.
Step 4: Now a new interface will be displayed on the screen, here four steps are mentioned.
Step 5: Here three options are given to submit your application form.
a) Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless):- If your PAN card is linked with your Aadhaar card, then choose this option. In this mode, no need to send any documents to the tax department. You can apply it online. Check your PAN card is linked with an Aadhar card or not.
b) Submit scanned images through e-sign:- In this mode, also PAN card should be linked with your aadhar card, just difference is via this you need to upload the signed documents for the KYC process.
c) Forward application document physically:- If your Aadhar is not linked with a PAN card, then you have to choose this option, In this after applying, you need to send all documents copy to Tax Department office via speed post.
Step 6: Now choose the option ‘Yes’ for Whether a Physical PAN card is required?
If you choose Yes, then an updated PAN card will be dispatched to your home address via POST.
Step 7: Fill in the information in all mentioned step by step.
Make sure you have checked ‘Photo mismatch’ and ‘signature mismatch’ boxes and submit the application form.
Step 8: For identity proof, choose address and date of birth as Aadhar card from the list. Select ‘Proof of PAN’ as a copy of the PAN card.
Under the declaration section, enter the applicant’s name and select the ‘Himself/Herself’ option.
Fill ‘1’ digit in the number of documents input box and Submit it.
Step 9: A new page will open, enter the first 8 digits of your Aadhaar card. Then check all showing details and click to proceed.
Step 10: After this, the payment page will be open, choose any payment mode and pay an online fee for updation in the current PAN card.
Approx fee is Rs. 106 to make changes in PAN card online.
Step 11: Now the NSDL electronic signature service page will shows, here verify your Aadhar card via OTP process.
After doing all these steps, the process of change the minor PAN card into major will be completed. An acknowledgment document will shows on the screen, download it.
This document is password protected, you can open it via enter your date of birth.

No, you can get an acknowledgment document after submission your application request online. You will get your PAN card via post.

INDIVIDUAL option only shows when we select application type for new pan type.
No, ashish, when you choose ‘Changes or Correction’ as application type then under Category list you will find ‘Body Of Individuals’ option.
How is my sign considered for the pan card?
I selected the first option. E-KYC, E-Sign (Paperless). So it just asked me for AADHAR verification. I got it that the photo for pan card while be retrived from my Aadhar Card.
but what about the my signature? previously it had my father’s signature when i was a minor, but since i updated it whose signature will be on the pan card?
Hi Omkar, in Paperless e-KYC option, you will recieved PAN card without any signature on it. After pan card delivery recieved, You have to sign on it with a marker.
Does paperless method which uses our aadhar card details gives us error if we have not linked our adhar with pan card?
Hi Tanishq, It might be create issue with online KYC process. I suggust you first link your aadhar card with PAN card number then follow paperless method.
Actually i was not knowing about this that linking is required so applied and got acknowledgement . Completed whole process. So now do i have to send documents through speed post to make my pancard or they will verify it from UIDAI?
If your process is completed successfully, then no need to send documents through speed post. In Paperless mode, no need to do it, they will verify your identity via Aadhar card.

When I checked my application status (pan change request) using the acknowledgment number, it is saying no record found. Is my application submitted or do I need to forward this acknowledgement paper with my sign to NSDL or anyone.
Hi Umakant, If you did Paperless KYC prcocess, then no need to send documents to NSDL. Mostly in 5 – 6 days PAN can will be delivered to users, If not then contact NSDL regarding this.

Hi Dipali, Yes you can apply for it. For paperless option, use your Aadhar number as identity proof document and do KYC online.

I completed all the above mentioned process including the payment, but it didn’t recognize the transaction. When I checked my bank account the money was debited. I thought maybe it needed some time to acknowledge the payment but its been over a month now. Please help
Have you check your bank account, If transaction failed, then might be debited amount again credited. Or if you have any application number then write a email to NSDL regarding this. Email id is: [email protected]

You can download it from here with the help of Acknowledement number or Issued PAN card number: https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html
But this only works if your application was processed through NSDL e-Gov.

Can I update my PAN Card from minor to major when my photo and biometric details update in aadhar is still in progress.
I think first you have to wait for your photo and bimetric updation in Aadhar card. After this you can apply for change minor to major PAN card.
I updated my pan card from minor to major online with e KYC.my adhar is also linked but still they sent a mail to send documents by post.i enclosed my class 10 certificate also for their reference.should i apply again or send the documents???
I think your e-KYC is not done successfuly. Please send your documents to NSDL address and don’t need to apply it again.
I completed all process through esign but in acknowledgement paper only my photo showing not signature so I have to submit physical document??
If you did KYC with Aadhaar card (paperless mode), then no need to send physical document.
