Change Name in PAN Card as per Aadhaar

If your name in your PAN card does not match your Aadhaar card, it can cause problems with bank KYC, income tax filing, and other financial transactions. The good news is you can change name in PAN card as per Aadhaar completely online, without going anywhere.

Important update for 2026: From April 1, 2026, the government made it mandatory for your PAN card name to exactly match your Aadhaar name. If there is any spelling difference, your banking or tax work can get stuck. So fixing this now is important.

Note: To do paperless PAN card updation, you must have Aadhaar card registered with your mobile number. Otherwise you can not update PAN card online with paperless facility.

New PAN Card Name Rules from April 2026

From April 2026, the Income Tax Department removed the option to customise the name printed on your PAN card. Now, your PAN name must match exactly what is in your Aadhaar database – no abbreviations, no initials, no nicknames.

If your Aadhaar name is wrong, first correct it at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (offline), and then apply for PAN name correction.

Which Portal to Use?

There are two official portals for PAN name correction:

1. Protean eGov (formerly NSDL): onlineservices.proteantech.in
2. UTIITSL: pan.utiitsl.com

Both portals are authorised by the Income Tax Department. Use the one that originally issued your PAN. If you are not sure, you can try both using your PAN number and date of birth.

Documents Required to Change Name in PAN Card

• Aadhaar card (with mobile number linked for OTP)
• Proof of name change, if applicable:
  • Marriage certificate (for name change after marriage)
  • Gazette notification (for legally approved name change)
  • Passport or Voter ID (as identity proof)
• Existing PAN card details

Note: Your Aadhaar card alone is enough if your name in Aadhaar is correct and your mobile number is linked to Aadhaar.

Payment can be done via debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI.

How to Change Name in PAN Card as per Aadhaar – Step by Step

Step 1: Open the Protean PAN Portal

Go to onlineservices.proteantech.in. Under Application Type, select “Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data / Reprint of PAN Card”. In Category, choose Individual.

Step 2: Fill the Application Form

Enter your name exactly as shown on your Aadhaar card. Also fill in your email ID, mobile number, and the captcha code. Make sure you enter the mobile number that is registered with your Aadhaar — you will need it for OTP later.

Click Submit. You will receive a token number on your email. Click “Continue with PAN Application Form”.

Click on ‘Continue with PAN Application form‘ button.

Step 3: Choose Paperless Submission (eKYC & eSign)

On the next screen, you will see document submission options. If your Aadhaar mobile number is active, choose:

“Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)”

Enter the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number.

Step 4: Select the Fields to Update

Check the box next to Name (and any other details like address or date of birth if required). Enter your correct name exactly as it appears in your Aadhaar. Do not make spelling errors — double-check before continuing.

Step 5: In next step, choose identify proof document, proof of PAN card option as shown in image.

Enter applicant name in decraration section, and fill other required details. If all details are correct then click to the ‘Proceed’ button. Other wise you can edit the form details.

Step 6: Now you have to pay fee to update your pan card. You can pay via Demand draft, via PAYTM or online payment through the bill desk.

Step 7: After getting success transaction message, click to ‘Continue’ button. Authenticate your aadhaar card number and click to ‘Continue with e-KYC’ button.

Step 8: In your Aadhaar registered mobile number/email an OTP was sent. Enter that OTP number here and click to submit.

Step 9: Now click on ‘Continue with eSign’ option. Now do KYC as per adhaar card number, again an OTP will sent on your phone, verify that OTP here.

Step 10: After that, you got a message screen, which confirms if applied using eSign/eKYC then there is no used to forward physical documents.

You can download your application form via click on Download PDF button. This will show all your updated information which will get print on new PAN card.

This PDF is password protected, you can view it via your Date of birth.

You will get an acknowledgement number on your email Id. Via this you can track the status of your application.

If you want to do correction in PAN card details according to your Aadhaar card without using nsdl portal, you can complete the process offline by following these simple steps:

1. Download and print the PAN Card Correction Form from the official PAN service website.
2. Fill in the form carefully with the correct information that matches your Aadhaar card.
3. Attach self-attested copies of the required documents, including your Aadhaar card and any other supporting documents, if needed.
4. Visit the nearest NSDL collection centre and submit the completed form along with the required processing fee.
5. After submission, you will receive an acknowledgement slip. Keep it safe because it can be used to track your application.

Once your application is verified and approved, the updated PAN card with the corrected details will be issued and sent to your registered address.

How Many Days Does It Take?

• e-PAN (digital): Usually available within a few hours to 2 working days after approval
• Physical PAN card: Dispatched by post within 15–20 working days

By following these steps, you can easily change name in PAN card as per Aadhaar without sending any physical documents. The entire process is paperless and takes only a few minutes if your Aadhaar mobile number is active.
