Re-issue Lost or Damaged Passport in India

In case of Damaged Passport

First, we talk about renew process of damaged passport, for this you have to know in what condition a passport is considered as a damaged.

What is the definition of damaged passport?

If your passport booklet gets wet in water or ink spread on it and passport number is not visible, means it beyond recognition then it is called a damaged passport.

Another case, is when your passport number is readable and name is legible and photo is intact but booklet is in bad condition and other information is not in readable format then also it is called a damaged passport.

How to re-issue Damaged Passport

To renew a damaged passport, you need to check required documents for it. For this, visit https://www.passportindia.gov.in website.

Here, on home page, look for the ‘Document Advisor’ option and click on ‘Document required for Re-issue of Passport’ link option, as shown in below image.

Now, choose the application mode either Normal or Tatkal. Choose the category and employment type, applicant address status and click to Continue button.

On next step, it will ask you to pick the reason for re-issue passport. Here select the checkbox ‘Damaged Passport’.

Also need to specify the extent of damage, pick relevent condition and click on View Document Required button.

Now, you will see the required document details along with the document code number and optional condition.

In case of Lost your Passport

If your passport has been lost or stolen, then lodge a FIR at your nereast police station on priority basis. It’s a matter of identity theft, and can lead to a serious offence.

If you have lost your passport in abroad then must approch to Indian Embassy.

Note: Non-resident Indian can apply online for re-issue of damaged or lost passport. For this visit this link : https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in. Choose the region/country from where you want to apply for passport copy and follow the mandatory steps.

Applicant can apply via Tatkal or Normal application scheme. For both different application fees, in Tatkal fee is mush higher then normal type.

Documents Required for Re-issue a Passport:

  • Passport application form
  • Date of birth certificate
  • An affidavit stating how and where your passport was lost
  • Original FIR report copy
  • Address proof document
  • Self-attested photocopy of first two and last two pages (including ECR/Non-ECR page) of your old passport (if available)

Steps to Re-issue the Lost Passport:

All you need to do is book an appointment via online mode and provide the required documents to the nearest passport office.

For online book slot booking, you have to registered on this portal: www.passportindia.gov.in

After registration, login on this website and choose for ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/ Reissue of Passport’.

Fill the form and upload required document.

Choose the schedule appointment and pick and available slot as per your convenience.

Visit the office as per schedule meeting and complete the rest formalities.
