As per the Section 15 in Motor Vehicles Act 1988, application of renewal of driving licence issued from the date of its expiry. If your driving licence is expiered then you have to renew asap, otherwise Maharashtra state governement may impose hevay penalties on you.
In India, diving licence is valid for 20 years or until the age of 50. After expired licence, you will get only a month as a grace period to renew it, otherwise have to pay late fee.

Process to Renew Driving Licence Online in Maharashtra
To renew online dricing licence in Maharashtra, follow below steps:-
1) Open the official Parivahan Sewa web portal on your laptop or mobile phone browser.
2) Now check for ‘Online Services’ menu tab and click on ‘Driving License Related Services’ drop down link option. See below image :-
3) Look for select the State from where the service is to be taken. Choose ‘Maharashtra’ state from the drop-down list.
4) On next page, all the online driving licence related services for Maharashtra state will shown. Here click on ‘Apply for DL Renewal’ option.
5) A instruction page will be display on your screen, read it and click to ‘Continue’ button.
6) After this, application for renew driving licence service page appears, enter your DL number, data of birth, state, RTO, applicant name.
7) Choose apply to state as Maharashtra and RTO office from the list and Click to Proceed button.
An acknowledgement slip will generate, take a print out of it. Later you have to submit this slip to nearest RTO office for verification.
They will do some documents verification and issue a renewed DL.
Note: If you are applying for Driving Licence Renewal and if you are aged above 40 years, please be ready with Form 1-A duly signed by an Authorised Registered Medical Practitioner.
Offline Process to Renew Driving Licence in Maharashtra
You can apply for driving licence renewal by visiting nearest RTO office. For this you have to fill Form 9 with all information like, name, DL number, date of issuance etc.
You can get this form from the RTO office or download it from here.
Also need to submit other required documents and applicable fees.
Documents required for renewal of driving licence:
- Form 1-A medical certificate signed by registered medical practitioner (if an applicant’s age is above 40)
- Form 9 and Form 1
- Copy of expired DL
- Address & Age proof document copy
- Passport size photograph

DL Renewal Fees in Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, driving licence renewal fee is approx Rs. 416. If you apply after grace period then late fee will be Rs. 1000.
Grace Period for Driving License Renewal:
According to motor act, 30 day grace period is allowed to complete the DL renewal process. If you apply after 30 days, then have to pay extra fee as penalty.
Check Driving License Application Status
After applying for the DL renewal application, you can check the current status of it.
For this have to visit same Parivahan Sewa portal and choose for ‘Driving Licence Related Service’ menu option.
Then pick you state name from the list. On next page, top menu you will find the ‘Application status’ button.
Click on this button, and enter your application number details.
Here you will get the current driving licence application status.
