Post Highlights
Your Aadhaar card is linked to your bank account, PAN, ration card, mobile SIM, and many of government schemes. Even a small erro, a misspelled name, an old address, a wrong date of birth can block you from getting services or passing KYC. The good news is that UIDAI has made it much easier to correct these details, and in many cases you do not need to visit an Aadhaar centre at all.
This guide covers everything you need to know about Aadhaar card correction and update, what can be changed online, what needs a centre visit, the latest fee structure, step-by-step instructions, and what to do if your request gets rejected.
What Has Changed Recently
UIDAI has made several important changes to the Aadhaar update process in recent months:
- November 2025: UIDAI expanded online update capabilities. Residents can now update demographic details name, address, date of birth, and in some cases mobile number through the myAadhaar portal with automated document verification integrated with PAN, passport, and ration card databases.
- Document Update Free until 14 June 2027: UIDAI has extended the waiver on document update fees through the myAadhaar portal. If you want to upload fresh supporting documents (proof of identity, proof of address) to update your Aadhaar record, you can do it free of cost on the portal until 14 June 2027. (At an Aadhaar centre, the fee is ₹75.)
- Email update Free until 31 December 2026: Updating your email address through the Aadhaar mobile app is free until 31 December 2026.
- Biometric update for children Free until September 2026: UIDAI has waived charges for the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) for children aged 7 -15 years for one year from 1 October 2025.
- New Aadhaar App: UIDAI launched a new official Aadhaar app (available on both Android and iOS). It has crossed 40 million downloads as of July 2026 and supports several services including email update, lock/unlock, and VID generation.
Important: Always use the official portal myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in or the official UIDAI website uidai.gov.in for Aadhaar services. Avoid third party websites that claim to offer Aadhaar updates.
